Mrs. Mary Marvine Smith Hibberts, age 73, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away Monday morning, January 4, 2021, at her residence.
Mrs. Hibberts was born in Rome, GA on January 21, 1947, daughter of the late Marvin Julian Smith and the late Sally Beulah Hessler Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Derrick Hibberts, and by a brother, Jimmy Smith. Mrs. Hibberts was a graduate of Armuchee High School. Prior to her retirement, she was Circulation Manager for the Rome News-Tribune, after having been employed there for many years. She attended South Broad Baptist Church.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Robin Hibberts Burkhalter (Steve), and Shelley Hibberts Collins, all of Silver Creek; a brother, Donnie Smith (Cindy), Rome; a sister-in-law, Pat Smith, Rome; nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mrs. Hibbert’s request, she will be cremated, and no formal services will be held.
The family requests that flowers be omitted, and memorial donation be made to the Rome-Floyd Humane Society, 518 Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Mr. Jefferson Lee Rosson Sr., age 93, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at a local hospital.
Mr. Rosson was born in Rome, GA on May 16, 1927, son of the late Thomas Jefferson Rosson and the late, Annie Lee Burk Rosson. He was a graduate of Rome Boys High School and attended the University of Georgia. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired employee of Bell South/AT&T after several years of service as an outside Plant Engineer.
After his retirement, he was employed as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and later with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office. He was a Mason, a member of the Rome Shrine Club, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4911. Mr. Rosson was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Faye Young Rosson, and by a daughter, Ann Laura Roberson.
Survivors include, 2 sons, Jeff Rosson Jr. (Wanda), Lindale, Mark Rosson (Judy), Rome; a daughter, Mary Lindsey (Cary), Lindale; his grandchildren, Amanda Stover, Melissa McJunkin, Ricky Mills, Steve Roberson, Jr. Jill Jones and 12 great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dewey Atchley will officiate. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting full Military Honors.

Avanelle Kerce Brown, age 96 of Floyd County, Georgia, died December 31, 2020, at the home of her daughter and surrounded by her loving family. Her precious great granddaughter, Avarie Clemons, was with her at the moment of her entry into heaven.
Avanelle was the only child of John and Emmie Hutcherson Kerce. She attended Wayside Elementary School, Model High School and Carol Lynn Business School. Following completion of school, she was employed by Tubize Corporation, a rayon manufacturer located in the Celanese Village, for nine years. She and John D Brown were married in August 1945, following John D’s return from Germany where he served in World War II. Following the birth of her daughter, she became a full-time homemaker.
She was a member of Mizpah United Methodist Church where she had been active in the United Methodist Women and served the organization as Secretary for many years. She also served as Secretary of the Rome District of the United Methodist Women for several years. When her daughter was in elementary school, she was a member and officer of the Johnson School PTA and served as a substitute teacher for the high school until it was merged with Model High School.
Avanelle was a bakery artisan, especially in the baking and decorating of cakes. She made numerous breathtaking birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. As an avid historian of her Kerce, Price, Hutcherson, Lanham, and Brown families, she collected hundreds of documents and records. She has left to her daughter the responsibility of continuing her genealogy work. She and John D were members of the committee that created the Floyd County History book where community members submitted the history of their families.
Avanelle was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tommy Boone, two grandchildren, Emilee Bell and husband Jason, and Cole Boone, three great granddaughters, Avarie Clemons, Kailyn Clemons, and Jordyn Bell, all of Dacula, Georgia, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Eastview Cemetery in Rome, GA with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm for a reception at Daniel’s Funeral Home.

Robert Sibley Ogletree (Bob) passed away on January 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank Ogletree and Sara Sibley Ogletree, as well as his brother, James Frank Ogletree, Jr.
Bob is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Diane Towers Harris Ogletree, his three children: Robert Sibley Ogletree, Jr. (Julie) of Rome, Elizabeth Towers Ogletree Ponder (Todd) of Rome, and James Fletcher Ogletree II of Albany, Georgia, and three grandsons: William Clifford Ogletree, William Ballard Ponder, and Robert Harrison Ponder. He is also survived by a nephew, James Frank Ogletree III (Sherry) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and niece Ellen Ogletree Brooks (Jack) of Newberry, South Carolina.
Bob was born on December 10, 1949 in Greenville, Georgia. He graduated from The University of Georgia and Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Bob will be remembered as an honorable man and faithful servant who loved the Lord and loved his family. He retired after practicing law for forty-two years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Bob also loved to hunt and share his love of the outdoors with his family.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at the Ogletree Cemetery in Meriwether County, Georgia.

Mr. James William Proctor, age 92 of Rome GA passed away on January 01, 2021 at his home.
James was born in Floyd Co. on November 06, 1928. Son of the late William Henry and Suzie May Proctor. James was of the Baptist Faith and attended Dykes Creek Baptist Church. James was employed with Galey & Lord retiring after 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Clara May Howerton and Gladys Proctor.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years. Mary Frances Gibson Proctor, and one daughter and Son -in-law Linda and Mike Locklear of Rome. Grandchildren Sara (Tyler) Locklear, Turner Locklear and Cole Locklear.
Due to Covid Funeral Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at East View Cemetery.
