Business: Rome Floyd Chamber offers $100 gift card promotion — with a $100 match — on Dec. 15. Concept has been a huge hit in Bartow twice this year.

In context: Twice since the pandemic hit local businesses, the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce has offered a “buy one/get one” gift card program where those purchasing $100 gift cards to local businesses automatically earned another $100 card. First with $10,000 and then $30,000, the local stimulus sold out in minutes. Customers picked up cards to area retailers, restaurants and later services as well. The promotions together pumped $80,000 into the Bartow economy (background). The Bartow chamber has shared the idea with the Rome Floyd Chamber with the inaugural offering set for Dec. 15.

From a media release: The Rome Floyd Chamber announces the Dec. 15 scheduled launch of Operation Gift Card, a gift card matching program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is with great excitement that we are able to announce the $10,000 Gift Card Giveaway, thanks to our partners, Community Foundation for Greater Rome and Georgia Power,” said Scott Preston, 2020 chamber chair.

Ashley Garner, Executive Director of the Community Foundation, said, “Partnering with the Chamber and Georgia Power and offering this opportunity to our donors to make such a far-reaching impact in the community directly aligns with our mission.”

Adds Cassandra Wheeler, Regional Director, Georgia Power: “This is a win – win, for Rome and Floyd County.  When Georgia Power can support an effort that helps our citizens, our small businesses, and our community, it allows us to truly exercise our commitment to be a citizen where we serve.”

The one-day-only, online event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the chamber’s website Gift cards will be sold in increments of $100.  For each purchase made, the chamber will match the first $100 spent by the consumer until the goal of $10,000 in matching funds is reached.

“Our small businesses in Rome and Floyd County make our community vibrant and continue to be an economic driver for our area.  Supporting these businesses is imperative as this effort helps sustain and grow jobs, more importantly, this is how we can take care of our friends and neighbors,” said Jeanne Krueger, chamber president.

Said Evie McNiece, chair of the chamber’s Small Business Action Council: “We had learned the success this program had in Cartersville for their small businesses and immediately called on Cindy Williams, President of the Bartow-Cartersville Chamber of Commerce with questions. Cindy and her team have been so kind and helpful, we really want to extend our thanks to them.”
