Week ahead: Drive-Through Rome Christmas Parade set for Tuesday. Planning Commission meets Thursday. ‘Stock Our Shelves’ canned food drive is Friday.

Tuesday: The Rome Christmas Parade is set for the State Mutual Stadium parking areas from 6 until 8 p.m. The theme this year will expand to become ”Miracle on Braves Boulevard Saluting the Heroes of 2020.”  The Red and Gold Parking areas of the Braves stadium will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland with floats, lights, music and fun holiday inflatables. Mike McDougald is the grand marshal. Parade entries may set up in the area from 1-6 p.m. on the day of the parade. For more on the parade, click here.

Thursday: The Rome-Floyd Planning Commission will meet via Zoom at 2:30 p.m. An agenda is not yet available.

Thursday: Cartersville Christmas begins at 6 p.m.; lineup begins at 4 p.m. at Tabernacle Church. All participants and spectators must practice social distancing and face masks be worn. The rain date is the following Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.
Friday: The Salvation Army’s annual canned food drive “Stock our Shelves”: Schools and churches already have been collecting canned and non-perishable food items and we collections are under way. This year, the Salvation Army has added a day of community giving on Friday, Dec. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Donors can drive through and stay in their vehicle from Second or First avenues in the same way you would make a donation to the Family Store. Volunteers will be there to collect your canned and non-perishable food donations.
Saturday, Dec. 5: Summerville also will use a “reverse-parade” concept where “floats” will be set up along East and West Washington streets and observers will drive by in their vehicles to view the “parade.” It will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, from 6-8 p.m.
