COVID on campus: Scheduled tests of Berry students find 40 new cases; 136 in quarantine. Floyd, Rome schools report 1,193 in quarantine.


WEDNESDAY STATUS REPORT: Expanded reports below as needed.
  • Berry College, Nov. 24: Planned testing shows increase at Berry College. The latest report shows 45 active cases and 136 people in quarantine. Berry’s student cases jumped from 18 on Nov. 20 to 48 as of Monday’s report (November total). The employees testing positive rose from 6 to 8. And a second WinShape employee tested positive. What it means: In partnership with federal, state and local health officials, Berry tested the student body prior to students’ departure from campus last week.  40 Covid-19 cases were determined through testing everyone. Total November positive tests: 57.   • 1,193 quarantines at Floyd, Rome schools through Monday.
  • Rome City Schools, Saturday-Monday: The report released Tuesday afternoon shows 355 students quarantined. Staff quarantines at 50. One more student tested positivie (Rome Middle).
  • Floyd County Schools: 788 quarantines, down 5 from Thursday. No new cases reportedQuarantines include 138 at Coosa High, 120 at Pepperell High, 103 at Model Elementary and 69 at Alto Park Elementary.
  • Cartersville City Schools:  Friday,  CCS was notified that one middle school student tested positive, and 17 students were identified as close contacts and will quarantine at home.
  • Bartow County Schools: Hamilton Crossing Elementary is the remaining school in yellow phase. Bartow
  • Gordon County Schools two schools under hybrid instructional model, ending Nov. 30: Gordon Central High and Sonoraville High. Expanded report.
  • Polk Schools: ‘Wear a mask for the first two weeks after returning from Thanksgiving break.’ Students are on Thanksgivings break now through Tuesday, Dec. 1, in Polk County — and there are concerns some will return with COVID-19. In a letter to parents and the school system, retiring Superintendent Laurie Atkins is asking students and staff to wear masks for the first two weeks after they return.   • Nov. 16-20: 648 to 788 quarantines. 21 new cases reported.
  • Oct. 9-Nov. 13: 131 to 490 overall quarantines, a record so far for Floyd County Schools. 
  • Sept. 30 through Oct. 8: Quarantines ranged from 298 to 462. Total positive cases reported for the period: 19.
  • Sept. 10 through Sept. 29: Quarantines ranged from 260 to 473 (Sept. 18).

  • Nov. 21-23: 355 students quarantined, up 15. Staff quarantines at 50, down 1. One new positive report from Rome Middle (student). Student quarantines include 100 at West End, 83 at Rome High and 80 at Rome Middle. As for faculty/staff, the central office has the most — 16 — followed by 13 at Rome High and 9 at West End.
  • Nov. 3-20: 99 to 434 students in quarantine. Staff: 38 to 75. 44 positive tests. 
  • Oct. 13-Nov. 2: 47 to 442 students. Staff: 16 to 73. 23: Quarantines ranged from 47 to 442 students, and from 16 to 56 faculty and staff. 40 positive tests overall.
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 12: Quarantines ranged from 175 to 222 students; from 15 to 32 staff and faculty. Total positive cases reported for the period. 4.
  • Aug. 19-Sept. 28: Student quarantines ranged from 138 to to 348 (Aug. 25). Faculty/staff quarantines ranged from 16 to 35 (Aug. 25)
