Georgia State Patrol continues investigation into accident that killed one, injured five other near rest stop in Gordon County.

In context: This was the second fatal accident in 24 hours in Northwest Georgia. A Rockmart man, 75, died in a separate collision in Polk County the day before.

From the Georgia State Patrol:

On Wednesday at 7:44 a.m., Post 43 Georgia State troopers were notified of a two-vehicle crash on I-75 North at the Adairsville rest area in Gordon County.

A Kia Forte occupied by six individuals was traveling north on I-75.  A tractor trailer was parked in the gore area of I-75 North and the Adairsville rest area exit.  The Kia Forte left the roadway where it struck a concrete drainage culvert with its front and undercarriage.  The Kia Forte overturned multiple times before striking the rear of the parked tractor trailer.

All six occupants of the Kia Forte were transported to Erlanger and Floyd Medical Center with serious injuries.  The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

At 12:13 p.m., the investigating Trooper was notified by the Gordon County Coroner’s Office that the front seat passenger of the Kia Forte was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at 11:18 a.m. The deceased has been identified as a 25-year-old female.   Charges are pending against the driver of the Kia Forte.

The next of kin for the deceased have not been notified.  We are withholding the identities of all occupants as this is still an ongoing investigation.
