In context: As the financial impact of coronavirus grew, the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber launched the #ForBartow program to help guide area consumers to chamber members still in operation, many of which had taken steps to expand their appeal such as restaurants. As part of that, a $10,000 Gift Card match was launched in June — and sold out in 9 minutes. On Nov. 17, the chamber brings the concept back but with triple the amount as well as a broader list of participating merchants. The concept: You spend $100 on a gift card; in return, the amount is doubled. There are guidelines and deadlines, and the overall goal is to add $60,000 into the local economy. What to know:
Media release: The Cartersville-Bartow Chamber announces a second, larger version of its extremely popular gift card matching program, which was initially launched in June in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Says Chamber CEO Cindy Williams: “It is with great excitement that we announce to the Bartow County community and members of our chamber an unprecedented $30,000 Gift Card Giveaway to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17. The timing of this event falls perfectly in line with holiday shopping and will certainly help incentivize shoppers to spend
their dollars locally.”
Thanks in part to an anonymous donor, this month’s event is three times larger than the first. It also includes attractions and experiences, lodging and various types of services in addition to restaurants and retail businesses which were the exclusive participants in the June event.
The one-day-only, online event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Chamber’s website, www.CartersvilleChamber.com. Gift cards will be sold in increments of $100. For each purchase made, the chamber will match the first $100 spent by the consumer until the goal of $30,000 in matching funds is reached. The inaugural #ForBartow Gift Card Giveaway offered consumers $10,000 in matching gift cards and sold out in nine minutes. That event generated a total of $26,000 in revenue for local businesses in a single day.
The upcoming event is expected to generate an additional amount for the community in excess of $60,000.
Added Williams: “Small businesses, including restaurants and retail shops, give Bartow County and each of its cities character and identity. It is vitally important that, as consumers, we spend our dollars supporting these businesses that provide us easy access to products and services, give us our sense of place, employ our family and friends, support local fundraising efforts, and contribute tax dollars that are put to work building a stronger Bartow.”
The Gift Card Giveaway program is part of the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber’s ongoing #ForBartow campaign, which was created in March for the purpose of communicating business resources and rallying the community to keep the local economy strong. Under this program, the Chamber shared critical business information through multiple media platforms and thus far, has directly contributed close to $30,000 to local businesses.
