A Cartersville man faces murder and other charges following a Saturday night shooting that left another man dead.
Killed from a gunshot wound was Jonathan Smith, 31, according to Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton. Smith was taken to Floyd Medical Center where he later died, Guyton says. Smith’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday in Euharlee.
Cody Lamont Daniell is has been charged with murder, aggravated assault (gun) and obstruction of law enforcement officers, Bartow County Jail reports show. Daniell is identified as a Cartersville area attorney.
Also arrested at the crime scene — 99 Millam Bridge Road, Euharlee, listed as Daniell’s residence — were Dessie Lauren Daniel and Kelsey Michelle Smith, both on misdemeanor charges of obstruction of a law enforcement officer, jail records show.
We have calls into the Euharlee Police Department. Contrary to earlier statements, the GBI is not assisting with the case.
