New life for former Mr. D’s in Armuchee. Rome Redevelopment Committee to discuss annexation, West Third, Martha Berry today. Chamber expo going all digital because of COVID.

A few concepts have been tried at 3793 Martha Berry Highway in Armuchee since the closing of Mr. D’s in January 2016. Most have involved southern cooking,  including a few meat-and-threes. Now on the way is Armuchee Cafe. The sign shows “Armuchee Cafe coming soon” and some interior work is under way. We’ll have updates soon.

Rome’s Redevelopment Committee meets today at 2:30 p.m. in the Sam King Room at City Hall. Among the items up for discussion:

  • Annexation of county islands.
  • Possible redevelopment of Martha Berry Corridor.
  • Update on West Third Street.

The Rome Floyd Chamber Expo goes all virtual this year. The chamber  announced today its plans for the Virtual Expo scheduled to debut Nov. 5.  Scott Preston, Chairman, Rome Floyd Chamber, Synovus, said the in-person event scheduled at the Forum was canceled because of the current increase in COVID numbers. “After discussions with Dr. Gary Voccio from the Department of Public Health and other healthcare officials, it became evident that the right thing to do for now is to not meet in person.”

The chamber planned the Virtual EXPO for this year as an option to have the event online and offer it to a broader audience.  “This is an opportunity for the Chamber to offer the best of innovation and technology as it is partnering with Braden Keith at Romega Digital to have an online state-of-the-art experience,” said Scott Wheeler, 2020 EXPO Chairman for the Rome Floyd Chamber, The Competitive Edge.
