Media release: The Bartow County School System mourns the loss of Cass Middle School Business and Computer Science Teacher Ginger Thompson.
She died in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday.

A fixture at Cass Middle School for 20 years, Thompson sponsored the 4-H Club and held various other titles throughout the years, such as careers and connections teacher and social studies teacher. Thompson loved the Georgia Bulldogs but she loved her “Cass kids” even more.

“She was fiercely loyal to her school and students,” says CMS Principal Kristy Arnold. “She wanted to see them be successful. Cass Middle School won’t be the same without her.”

Known for her school spirit, willingness to help, and fondness for animals, this popular educator could always be found supporting her students at school events and 4-H competitions.

“Mrs. Thompson was loved by all,” adds Connections Team Leader Sydney Hughes. “She never had a negative thing to say about anyone and loved Cass Middle. If she wasn’t wearing blue and gold, she was wearing red and black for Georgia, her favorite college team. We will miss her!”

CMS counselors will be speaking to Thompson’s classes on Friday, and extra counselors will be on hand from other Bartow County schools to offer additional support to the school community.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

On Oct. 8, at approximately 7 a.m., a concrete mixer truck was traveling east on Ga. 140 near mile marker 8. A 2004 GMC Yukon was traveling west on Ga. 140. The driver of mixer made a left turn into the path of Yukon. The Yukon struck the mixer in the right side with its front. The area of impact was in the westbound lane of Ga. 140 at its intersection with the driveway of 1655 Highway 140.

Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation. Charges are pending the completion of that report.

The mixer driver was identified as Jerry L. Potts, age 39 of Fairmount, who escaped injury.

The Yukon was driven by Laura Virginia “Ginger” Thompson, age 56, of Adairsville, who was fatally injured.
