So here’s a take-out meal idea that might not be on your pandemic to-try list — just yet. How about a sampling from the MRE menu?
That’s meals ready to eat (a military reference) and you’ll find a virtual cafeteria at Roman Readiness, which bills itself as “Northwest Georgia’s premiere preparedness store. Your source for flashlights, knives, gun parts, ammo, long-term food, prepper supplies and more.”
The store opened last week at 4 Webster St. (the former dance studio) in West Rome with hours of 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The “prepper” reference is aimed at those preparing perhaps for bad times (you’re seen the movies) which explains a lot of the inventory showcased above. Including the MREs — lasagna, beef stroganoff, chicken fried rice and others — you’ll also find survival gear and equipment to make a more rustic lifestyle a bit easier. There’s even “pandemic medic” kits just in case.
Some of the inventory would be handy during periods of bad weather as well, especially amid prolonged power outages. The food items in particular might make a few nights in the wild a little less primitive.
