Media release: The Coosa District, which is comprised of Floyd, Polk and Chattooga counties, announces the 2020 District Award of Merit and Youth Leader Award of Merit honorees. These honorees have given to countless hours of dedicated service to youth and their families in Scouting and in their communities. Jonathan Rogers currently serves as Committee Chair for Troop 30, a Committee Member for Pack 30 and is a Member of the Coosa District Committee. He has been active for fifteen year in the Order of the Arrow and is President Elect for the Camp Sidney Dew Alumni Association. Jonathan has been involved in numerous Coosa District and Northwest Georgia Council events as a director and volunteer. Jonathan is an integral part of the Scouting Program. When there is a need in Scouting he can always be counted on to help make it happen. It is with great pride that we present Jonathan Rogers the District Award of Merit.
Michael Kitchens currently serves as Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 7, Committee Member in Pack 38, and Training Chair for the Coosa District. He is also, an active Order of the Arrow, Brotherhood Member. Michael has helped Direct or staff numerous events, and is active in his church and throughout the community in events such as Scouting for Food. Michael enjoys working with youth and when there is a need in the District or Council he can always be counted on to step up. It is with great pride that we present Michael Kitchens the District Award of Merit.
Patrick Fields is an Eagle Scout from Troop 21 in Cedartown, where he serves as Assistant Scoutmaster. He is a Vigil Honors member of Waguli Lodge 318, where he serves as Vice Chief of Program. Patrick has been involved in service projects with his Troop and the Order of the Arrow, Eagle Projects, projects with his school and within his community. Patrick exemplifies the ideals of the Scouting Oath and Law in his everyday life and the Coosa District is proud to award Patrick Fields the Youth Leader Award of Merit.
Carolyn Smyth is a Life Scout in Troop 113, where she currently serves as Senior Patrol Leader. She was a founding member and President of Crew 20, and is a Brotherhood member in Waguli Lodge 318, where she serves as Communication Chair. She has been active in Scouting, staffing numerous events and service projects. She is the youth representative for the Board of Trustees at the Cave Springs United Methodist Church and on the Youth Leadership Council at Coosa High School. Carolyn exemplifies the ideals of the Scouting Oath and Law, and is always willing and eager to serve wherever there is a need. The Coosa District takes great pride in awarding Carolyn Smyth the Youth Leadership Award of Merit.
