Mr. David Kevin Gurley, age 34, of Armuchee, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020.

Kevin was born in Rome, Georgia on February 24, 1986, son of Sandra Peek Gurley and David Kenneth Gurley. He was a graduate of Armuchee High School. Kevin was owner and operator of Kevin Gurley Inc., where he did grading and asphalt paving in the Rome area. Kevin was known as an amazing person. He touched so many people’s lives and was an inspiration and mentor. Kevin was preceded in death by his uncle, Allen Gurley; by his grandparents, Donald Gurley, and Virginia and J. C. Peek.

Survivors include his wife, Taryn Blaike Gurley; his son, Jenson David Gurley; his mother and father, Sandra Peek Gurley and David Kenneth Gurley; his sister, Amanda Nichole Kilgore (Clinton); his grandmother, Mildred Worthington; niece, Alaina Jaymes Kilgore.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 3:00pm at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Pastor Greg Cater officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations to the Kevin Gurley Memorial Fund for his son, Jenson David Gurley’s trust fund. Contributions can be made at any Heritage First Bank.

Kevin will lie in state at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Monday from 11am until 2pm with social distancing guidelines being followed.

Mrs. Elizabeth Lee “Beth” Nesbit, age 73, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2020.

Beth was born in Cedartown, GA, on September 24, 1946, a daughter of the late Charlie William Hopkins and the late Edith Juanita Parhm Hopkins. Mrs. Nesbit had been a resident of Rome the greater part of her life where she was a member of the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. She was an active member of the church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, on the bereavement committee and was a member of the WMU. Beth loved playing cards, traveling, event planning and canning jelly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2010 by her husband, William Guy Nesbit, whom she married April 16, 1977; brothers: Charles Hopkins, Dan Hopkins and Mike Hopkins; and sister, Jenny M. Garrett.

Beth is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frankie Morris of Aragon, GA, and Gregory and April Morris of Woodstock, GA; step-daughter, April Nesbit Smith and her husband Chris of Rome; five grandchildren, Kristin (Christopher) Sauchak, Meredith (Marc) Johnson, Lilli Alyse Kennedy, Ava Marie Morris and Emma Grace Morris; three great-grandchildren, Madelyn Johnson, Michael Johnson and Penelope Sauchak; a sister, Carolyn Hopkins Bentley, Buchanan, GA.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Beth will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Drummond officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at 1:30 pm and include Boddy Davis, Chris Smith, Edward Pollard, Clay Bell, Tony Swafford, Haven Thomas and Woody Rush.

Mrs. Nesbit will lay instate at the church on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour.

The family received friends Friday at Salmon Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Nesbit to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 5188, Rome, GA, 30162.

Mrs. Arva Marie Busby Backers, age 80, of Lindale, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at her residence.

Mrs. Backers was born in Floyd County, Georgia on July 23, 1940, daughter of the late Horace A. Busby and the late Ruby Nails Busby.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wayne Backers, by a sister, Florence Clouatre, and by four brothers, Chaney Busby, Marvin Busby, Lee Busby and Carl Sisson.  She was a member of Silver Creek Church of God.  Prior to retirement, Mrs. Backers worked for Engineered Fabrics in Rockmart.

Survivors include two daughters, Annette Hannah, Rome, and Darlene Boatner, Lindale; two sons, Henry Edward Terry, Buchanan, and Glenn Evan Terry, Rome; a sister, Jewel Smith, Lindale; a brother, Thornie Busby, Silver Creek; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at 3pm at Silver Creek Church of God, 5834 Rockmart Road, Silver Creek, GA 30173, with the Rev. Aaron Slomovitz and the Rev. Michael Edwards officiating.  Social distancing measures will be followed.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park with the Rev. Blake Terry officiating.

Mrs. Backers will lie in state at Silver Creek Church of God on Sunday from 2pm until the service time.  Social distancing measures will be followed.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Sunday at 2:30pm and include: Caleb Boatner, Kevin Boatner, Kyle Ashley, Jordan Ashley, Austin Loveless, Dakota Moss and Danny Busby.
