Buzz: Area churches to offer Farmers to Families food giveaway on Sept. 19. State net tax collections in August up 7.7% vs. a year earlier.

Farmers to Families, is a food box initiative started by the federal government. Because of COVID-19, farmers were unable to get their crops to market which would have resulted in a huge financial loss for farmers and as well as crops left to ruin. This program was put in place to provide relief to not only the farmers of America but also to the families in our communities.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Farmers to families will be held at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds. It is free to the public and open to all. The drive-through food distribution will be held while supplies last. while supplies last.
Taking part in the project are Cornerstone Church, Hollywood Baptist Church, Kingdom Church International, LIFE Church, Sherwood Rome and West Rome Baptist Church.

Georgia’s August net tax collections totaled nearly $1.89 billion for an increase of $134.5 million, or 7.7 percent, compared to August 2019, when net tax collections totaled roughly $1.75 billion. Year-to-date, net tax revenue collections totaled $4.03 billion after two months for an increase of $446.3 million, or 12.4 percent, compared to the end of August last year (FY 2020).
