With virus concerns canceling Corky Kell games here, Rome will face Rockmart to open the 2020 high school football season on Sept. 4: This update from Rome City Schools community relations coordinator Courtney Crumley:
“As of right now, Rome is still scheduled to kick off against Rockmart on Sept. 4. Regarding Corky Kell, the scheduled doubleheader has been canceled at Barron this year. In order to follow CDC guidelines, RCS did not think it was plausible to host the doubleheader event. We tried to host a single game but Corky Kell thought it best to move to another location with other teams.”
As originally planned, the Rome-Rockmart game was to be played at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, following the Carrolton-Cedartown opener at 5:30 p.m. Both games were set for Barron Stadium; it was to be the third consecutive double-header with the Corky Kell organization in Rome. The games enjoyed a regional TV and webcast audience, a plus for the players are well as Rome.
The start of the high school regular season has since shifted to Sept. 4 and Corky Kell also has adjusted some of the other games in the series.
