THE LATEST

Patchy dense fog has developed across portions of northern Georgia this morning. An advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Visibilities of one half of a mile or less are possible during the morning commute. Drivers should exercise caution this morning as visibilities may be rapidly reduced, especially in low lying areas.

53 customers without power off Shorter Avenue this morning; restoration due by 10:45 a.m.

Strong and some severe thunderstorms moved through Northwest Georgia Saturday evening. The National Weather Service reports multiple trees down from thunderstorm wind damage in Floyd and Bartow counties including:

  • Tree down on Shannon Circle (Floyd)
  • Tree down on Chulio Road (Floyd)
  • Trees down on power lines in 200 block of Tant Road (Bartow)
  • Tree down on power line in 100 block of Rodgers Cut Off (Bartow)
  • Tree down in roadway at Cassville Road and James Avenue (Bartow)
  • Tree down in roadway at Cedar Creek Road and Crow Springs Road.

OUTLOOK

A 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon, high near 92, heat index near 98. Scattered thunderstorms are expected across the area. A few storms may be strong to severe with damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, and locally heavy rainfall.
