Mrs. Maggie Louise Cheatwood, age 87, of Rome, GA, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at a local assisted living facility.

Mrs. Cheatwood was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on March 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Marion Guy Dodd and the late Ollie Leon Dawson Dodd.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eaphrom Cheatwood, by her sisters, Georgia Lee Motes, Margaret Murphy, Ida Parker, Rena Dodd and Rachel Dodd, and by her brothers, Horton Dodd, Richard Thomas Dodd, W. A. Dodd, Charles Dodd and Billy Joe Dodd.

She is survived by her daughter, LaVone Arthur (Jack) of Richardson, TX; her granddaughter, Caroline Arthur of San Antonio, TX; her sister, Sara Barfield of Rome; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 12 noon at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Huffman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association in Mrs. Cheatwood’s memory.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the arrangements.


Mrs. Linda Joyce Mathis Crumley, age 76 of Rome passed away Friday July 24, 2020 at her residence.

Mrs. Crumley was born January 28, 1944, in Floyd County a daughter of the late Herman Mathis, and Mary Neil Grissom Mathis Caudill. She was a member of North Rome Church of God, and retired from Floyd County School System. Mrs. Crumley was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby James Temples, and Laetus H. Crumley.

Survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Michell) Temples, Brian (Kaycie) Temples, sisters, Gail (Butch) Stansell, Shirley Lewis, Peggy Sue (Ronnie) Waters, brother, Darrell (Jerilyn) Caudill, grandchildren, Adam and Chelsea Edwards, Trenton Temples, Seth (Shannon) Temples, Ethan Temples, great grandchildren, Noah, Zoey, Sophia, Aria, Ronan, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Private services will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Addis, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Temmie Gordon McGuire, age 57 of Rome passed away Sunday July 19, 2020.

Temmie was born August 13, 1962 in Floyd County, a son of the late Gene McGuire, and Juanita Lee McGuire. He was a member of West Side Family Worship Center, and attended Way of the Cross Church. Temmie was employed by A-1 Cement. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tiara Hight, brother, Ricky McGuire.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Cook McGuire, daughters, Kimberly Hight, Brittany Caver Walters, sisters, Tammy Dotson, Tina Silvers, grandchildren, Kaylee Thacker, Klarissa Carver, Abigail Carver, Daisy Lariscey, Brittaney Thacker, Lindsey Thacker.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday Augusts 1, 2020 at Way of The Cross Church, with Rev. Donald Lindsey, and Rev. Frank Holtzclaw, officiating.
