Business: Ely Concrete of Cartersville wins bid to help build Buc-ee’s mega convenience store coming to Calhoun.

Ely Concrete Construction, with offices in Cartersville, announces it has been selected to work on the massive Buc-ee’s  store coming to Calhoun.

Due within 12 to 14 months, the Texas-based convenience store chain features more than 53,000 square feet of retail space — or larger than the Publix in Rome and about half the size of local Walmarts. It will feature more than 100 fueling positions and employee some 200 people.

The site is at 250 Johnson Lake Road off Union Grove Road east of I-75

In addition to having “the cleanest bathrooms,” the stores feature barbecue, homemade fudge, Beaver nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries as well as clothing and home decor items.

Founded in 1982, the company primarily is in Texas. Sites in Warner Robins and Calhoun were confirmed late last year.
