Business: Home sales down 20.5% but prices mixed for Northwest Georgia homebuyers, sellers in May vs. a year earlier.

It was a sluggish May for home sales in Northwest Georgia, based on stats from the previous year. It is another downtown that can be blamed on the pandemic even though online interest in the home market was very high.

The Greater Rome Board of Realtors saw nearly a 38 percent drop in sales in May, 84 in all. The average sales price and median sales price both were up slightly from a year earlier.

The Northwest Metro Association of Realtors, which tracks Bartow and Gordon stats, showed a 17.1 percent drop in sales in Bartow County as well as flat or decreases in median and average sales prices. Gordon County saw a 6 percent dip in sales with the median price up vs. 12 months earlier but average price down nearly 7 percent.’

The three counties together sold 252 houses in May, down from 317 from a year earlier, or 20.5%.

Floyd County | May 2020

    Median sales price: $165,000 (1.2% increase)
    Average sales price: $196,246 (2.3 % increase)
    Total active listings: 267 (18.8% decrease)
    New listings: 101 (36.1% decrease)
    Month’s Supply: 2.8 (22.1% decrease)

Bartow County | May 2020

  • Total single family home sales: 121 (17.1%).
  • Median sales price: $194,000 (no change)
  • Average sales price: $210,000 (5.8% decrease)
  • Total active listings: 232 (33.1% decrease)
  • New listings: 74 (42.2% decrease)
  • Month’s Supply: 1.9 (33.9% decrease)

Gordon County | May 2020

  • Total single family home sales: 47 (6% decrease).
  • Median sales price: $170,000 (4.9% increase)
  • Average sales price: $178,000 (6.8% decrease)
  • Total active listings: 94 (35.2% decrease)
  • New listings: 20 (59.2% decrease)
  • Month’s Supply: 1.9 (42.7% decrease)
