Mr. Stanley Lewis Davies Jr., age 74, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at a local hospital.

Mr. Davies was born in Paterson, N. J. on August 2, 1945, the son of the late Stanley Lewis Davies Sr. and the late Marie Hall Davies.  Stan had a passion for woodwork and gardening.  He was of Protestant faith.  He worked for 35 years and retired from Verizon Bell Atlantic.  Mr. Davies served his country in the United States Army National Guard.

Stan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Komanitzky Davies; his son, Brian Davies, and his wife, Sharon, and his other son, Kevin Davies; his grandchildren, Melissa Davies, Andrew Davies and Nicole Jaqueline Davies.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.  The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will present military honors.

Mr. Davies will lie in state at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 12 pm until the service time.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.


Mr. Blake Chamlee Barton, age 38, of Lindale, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Barton was born in Rome, Georgia on December 28, 1981, son of Randall Clifton “Randy” Barton and Jane Pilgrim Barton.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Zachary William Barton, and by grandparents, William Harrison Pilgrim, Dorothy Pilgrim, Thelma Barton and Robert Lee Barton.  Blake was a 2000 graduate of Pepperell High School and was of the Baptist faith.  Prior to becoming disabled, he worked in construction.

Survivors include his parents, Randy & Jane Barton, Lindale; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Private graveside services will be held at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.  The Rev. Clifford Free will officiate.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the arrangements.


Patricia Ann Lane, age 57, of Rome passed away Thursday June 18, 2020 at her residence.

Patricia was born on November 30, 1962 in Rome GA., to Mildred Robinson and the late Dennis Cribb. Patricia will be remembered as a strong, faithful, loving wife and mother who took comfort in taking care of others. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. Her exemplary life inspires us to love deeply, serve others and live fully. She liked to call herself a homebody and said raising her children and loving her family was God’s plan for her. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love she had for her grandchildren and the faith she had in god. She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers: Ricky Robinson, and Timmy Robinson.

Survivors include her husband: Davis Lane; children: Ricky Moore, Candice (Cecil) Peek, and Brooke (Adam) Harris; grandchildren: Ricky Moore, AiveAnna Harris, Zander Hammett, Stormie Harris, Austin Harris, Hayden Bannister, and Nicholas Kinney.

Memorial service was held Monday June 22, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Parnick Jennings Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Edward Thomas VanMeter, age 85 of Rome passed away Saturday June 20, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. VanMeter was born November 13, 1934, in Floyd County, a son of the late Charlie Garvin VanMeter, and Eva Teems VanMeter. He was a member of Rockmart Church of God, master mason and member of East Floyd Masonic Lodge #728 F&AM and Yarab Temple Rome Shrine Club. He was retired from Carolina Freight where he had over 30 years of service. Mr. VanMeter was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Stowe VanMeter, daughter, Pamela Joyce VanMeter, and several siblings.

Survivors include his children, Cathy (Marty) Mabry, Ricky (Joyce) VanMeter, Janet Langston, sisters, Josephine Snowden, Patricia Lucus, 9 grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday June 24, 2020 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Milliken, and Rev. Michael Pasley, officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
