Mrs. Debra Sue Knowles Barnes, age 63, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at a local hospital.
Debra was born in Rome, Georgia on June 20, 1956, daughter of the late Bertie Lee Smith Knowles and James Carlton Knowles Sr. Debra was a Special Education Teacher with the Floyd County Technical High School for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Barnes; daughter, Whitney Culberson (Ashly); sons, Brad Barnes (Metina), and Brent Barnes (Christina); nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Tim East officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Mrs. Barnes will lie in state at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Saturday from 11am until 1:45 pm. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Ms. Sandra June “Sandy” Peace, age 65, of Silver Creek, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020, at a local hospital.
Sandy was born on February 11, 1955, daughter of the late Lewis Miles Putnam and the late Nellie June Pherson Putnam. She was a member of Vanns Valley Baptist Church. Sandy worked as a medical scheduler for Parallon Enterprise, LLC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Edward.
Survivors include three stepchildren, Jeff Peace (Dena), Rome, Jerome Peace, Rome, and Jenifer Wade (Tony), Rome; grandchildren, Daniel Burchett, Marcus Burchett, Lauren Fallin, Heather Baker and Jayson Peace; great grandchildren, Paityn Burchett, Ava Lovering and Isaac Fallin; a sister, Ann Greene, North Carolina; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020, at 1pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Seth Carter will officiate.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
Miss Gloria Jean Blankenship, 67, of Cave Spring, died Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020, following a brief illness.
Miss Blankenship was born in Rome May 22, 1953, a daughter of the late Bruce D. Blankenship and the late Lena Robinson Blankenship. An avid Atlanta Braves fan, she was a 1971 graduate of Cave Spring High School, and was co-owner with her life long friend Vickie Jacobs of Vickie’s Beauty Shop. A devoted sister, aunt and friend, Miss Blankenship was a life long member of the Live Oak Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years, and had also served as Bible School Director and choir director.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan Blankenship and Randy Blankenship, and by two nephews Brandon Blankenship and Kenneth Blankenship.
Miss Blankenship is survived by one brother, Robert Blankenship and his wife Brenda of Rome, and by two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Fricks and her husband Mike of Cave Spring, and Ms. Brenda Mount of Lindale. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Miss Blankenship will be held Friday afternoon, June 19, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the Live Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Jennings and Terry Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Adam Fricks, Lamar Fricks, Vann Blankenship, Bruce Blankenship, Jimmy Tate and Larry Hestely.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
Although flowers will be accepted, those wishing may send memorials to the Live Oak Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 590, Cave Spring, Georgia.
For both the funeral service, and the time that the family will be at the funeral home, CDC Social Distancing rules will apply.
