Commentary: Floyd County Democratic Party sends open letter to governments, law enforcement seeking local policies dealing with race relations. ‘We are grateful that we have experienced no recent situations…’

The Floyd County Democratic Party has sent an “open letter” to local governments and law enforcement concerning police policies, especially during the “difficult, tragic times in our country.

“We are grateful that we have experienced no recent situations of the magnitude of the Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd cases in our community. We hope this is because our law enforcement agencies already have some policies and procedures in place to help prevent the conditions that led to these unacceptable deaths and generally tense relationships between law enforcement and the African American community and other communities of color in Rome and Floyd County,” the letter shows.
With that, the committee asks the agencies to share their policies in a response to the letter below.  Hometown Headlines will post any updates received from the city and county as well as law enforcement on this same page. We received the letter below from the Democratic Party representatives on Monday morning; it has not been edited or changed in any way. Responding agencies are asked to send us an email at druck@hometownheadlines.com.
