The 14th Congressional District runoff — already a favorite among national media from Fox to The Daily Beast — is getting more time in the spotlight.
On Friday, a CNN political columnist expanded on candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene’s comments about QAnon, described by the cable news outlet as “a broad-scale internet-based conspiracy theory begun in early 2017 that is based on a belief that there is a high-level government official — “Q” — who sprinkles clues on internet message boards like 4chan and 8chan about a massive “deep state” conspiracy (or series of conspiracies) at work in the country.”
Greene, who scored more than 40 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s primaries, is locked in a runoff with Dr. John Cowan. The winner of the Aug. 11 Republican vote faces Democratic Kevin Van Ausdal on Nov. 3.
Here’s how the column starts:
“The Republican primary in Georgia’s 14th district on Tuesday didn’t draw much national attention. After all, it’s an overwhelmingly Republican district that GOP Rep. Tom Graves had held easily for a decade in Congress before announcing his retirement last year.
“But when all the votes were counted, it became clear that the 14th district was on the verge of making history: Electing the first openly pro-QAnon member of Congress in Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

We asked the Greene campaign for a statement and was sent the following, a pickup from some of the candidate’s campaign Facebook page more in response to a recent Washington Post article:
“The Chinese propagandists in the Fake News media are attacking me the same way they attack Donald Trump, and other conservatives. The Fake News Media is terrified that a conservative businesswoman, pro-life and pro-gun mother of three like myself will be the worst nightmare to Pelosi’s socialist dreams, AOC’s job-killing “green new deal,” and Ilhan Omar’s ANTIFA buddies who burned down Minneapolis. Northwest Georgians are proud, conservative America-loving patriots … I won’t let them be bullied by the hate America leftists at CNN.”
