Rome Braves manager Matt Tuiasosopo turned 34 on Sunday and it prompted the niche sports site Cespedes Family BBQ to wish him an HBD and to post a “historic” baseball call where Tuiaspsopo hit his first major league home run in a game wih Seattle vs. Toronto. It had been predicted by Mike Blowers prior to the game. The announcers’ call is half the show.

Shorter opponent for Oct. 3, past few seasons, closes football program: The game was to be played at Barron Stadium at 1 p.m. that day. “The Gulf South Conference is disappointed to learn today’s decision by Florida Tech to immediately discontinue its football program. Since the program’s inaugural season in 2013, Florida Tech has been a valuable league member that has helped the GSC maintain its status as the top football conference in Division II. While saddened by the news, we understand the difficult realities that institutions across the country are currently facing and the challenging decisions that must be made. The GSC remains committed to supporting our institutions and student-athletes as we navigate through this current state of uncertainty.”

Major League Baseball / Major League Baseball owners approved a proposal that commissioner Rob Manfred plans to present to players Tuesday on a return-to-play scenario that aims to have baseball back in home stadiums by early July, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN. The meeting between MLB and the MLB Players Association on Tuesday will set the stage for what both parties expect to be a contentious negotiation. While MLB could benefit long term from being the first American team sport to return amid the coronavirus pandemic, the logistics of starting the season remain convoluted and require player support.

Atlanta Hawks: Latest updates / From the AJC: The Hawks’ practice facility in Brookhaven’s Executive Park officially reopened Monday. The facility was shut for 54 days, originally shuttering March 18, one week after the NBA suspended play when Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus. As the team begins to use the practice facility again, guidelines from the league will apply. No more than four players will be allowed in the facility at a time, players are not permitted to practice or scrimmage in a group, no head or assistant coaches can participate while players practice individually and players can’t use public gyms or any non-team facilities.

  •  The NBA:  Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant will not play this year if the NBA season resumes.  Speaking on his The Woj Pod podcast, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Durant would be held out for the entire year, regardless of when the season restarts or how many games are played. “Kevin Durant’s not coming back to the Nets this year,” Wojnarowski said. “That’s not happening. … They’re not playing him.” (from Sports Illustrated).
