The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports Simon Property Group will reopen its Georgia malls and retail centers as early as Friday in some cases. Among them is Calhoun Outlet Marketplace as well as Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza and the Mall of Georgia. We have notes into the Calhoun location for specific updates and will share those as they are made available (Facebook and website).

The move comes as Georgia’s shelter-in-place restrictions are set to expire at 11:59 p.m. Thursday. Gov. Brian Kemp also has announced the phased reopening of other businesses already.

Hours for the malls and outlets that reopen will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow for deep cleaning at night, according to the CNBC report. Simon Property Group said in the memo it would provide CDC-approved masks and sanitizer to shoppers if they ask for them while also encouraging shoppers to wear their own masks. Employees will be required to wear face masks and measures are to be taken to limit the number of people in an area to only one person per 50 square feet of space.

The outlets closed March 18, citing health concerns for shoppers and retailers.

Village Theatres to ‘push our opening date out a few more weeks.’ Here’s the latest from the parent company of Rome Cinemas and the Movies at Berry Square:

While Georgia has been granted permission to open movie theatres under certain conditions, the movie theatre industry is also a national one.  Until the majority of theatres in the U.S. are open and new wide-release movies are available, we have decided to push our opening date out for a few more weeks.

We all are very eager to open back up but the safety of our employees and patrons is what matters the most.  When we do open up it will be with strict cleaning protocols.  We will be practicing social distancing, meaning that our auditoriums will be seated at half of their capacity, and our employees will be retrained to the “New Norm” on how to perform their jobs.

So we are asking our patrons to please bear with us in these uncertain times and know that we will be open as soon as possible.  Please keep check on our website romemovies.com for information on our reopening date. We will be back!  Thank You, Robin Miller, Vice president of Operations, Village Theatres Inc.
