From Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation: The COVID-19 virus can force us to close ball fields, gyms and facilities but it can’t keep us from finding ways to reach out to athletes of all ages.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting short videos to our website and social media accounts. Some videos will focus on sport-specific drills while others will consist ofworkout routines for our active adult population and even some instructional line-dancing videos.

We hope these videos can help hold everyone over until we are able to open our facilities and fields and get our sports seasons started again.

“With social distancing and sheltering in place, it can be tough for kids to exercise and work on the sports they love. We wanted to offer some easy drills and practice routines kids can do to help them get ready for when our sports seasons can begin again,” Todd Wofford, RFPRA Director says. “We also wanted to make sure we had some videos for our active adult population.”

We would love for you to share photos or short videos of you and your kids doing the drills or working out to the videos. We’ll share the best of what is submitted to us on social media.

We also encourage everyone to practice social distancing, wash their hands and obey all shelter in place rules, so that we can’t get back to playing games and having fun as soon as possible.

  • NFL Draft remains set for April 23-25: The latest / NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed all 32 NFL clubs that the 2020 NFL Draft would proceed in a fully virtual format in a memo sent out Monday obtained by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. League and club facilities are set to remain closed indefinitely, to ensure the NFL is in compliance with current regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and therefore clubs were advised to prepare to conduct the draft outside of their facilities. Team personnel were furthermore advised to be in separate locations, using phone and the internet to communicate. Pelissero reported, per sources, the league informed a group of general managers it was proceeding with plans for a virtual draft during a conference call Friday. Monday’s news is the latest adjustment to how the draft will operate as the country continues to feel the effects of the new coronavirus. In March, the league prohibited teams from conducting pre-draft visits with prospects at club facilities, forcing teams to rely on virtual methods to meet with prospective players. The draft, originally scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, runs from April 23-25.
