Social media is buzzing with prayers and well-wishes today for Cave Spring Elementary Principal Kyle Abernathy and his wife April, both now hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In a Facebook post from Friday, Kyle asks for prayers for his wife April who was listed as “critical but stable”. Kyle says she is on oxygen 24/7 and “has a hard time breathing without it”. He says they contracted it at a “crowded place” and have not traveled. Monday’s posts continue to track her improvement and progress.

Abernathy’s post has been shared numerous times by family and friends seeking prayers for the family. Some comments include:

“For everyone that says it is “just hype” or is annoyed that school/child care is closed for 2-3 weeks, this is Gage’s principal and his precious family. Dr. Abernathy is a part of our school family. This is what they are going through right now. Please stop what you are doing and cover them in prayer. It just goes to show it can happen to anyone!”

“Pray hard and send good thoughts to Dr. Abernathy, his family and friends and the medical personnel risking themselves to care for them! Cave Spring folks love and respect you Kyle Abernathy! Hope you and your sweet wife are well soon”.
