Suspected drunken driver in collision that killed 2-year-old Rome faces 14 charges.

From The News-Observer: Hunter Ethan Elliot, the 23-year-old Blue Ridge man charged in an accident that killed a Rome toddler and seriously injured two others, now faces 14 counts following that Sunday night collision. The latest

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

On Sunday, between 10:30 and 11 p.m., a 2008 Ford Escape was stopped westbound in the left lane of GA 2, at the traffic light at its intersection with Blue Ridge Drive.  Vehicle #1, a 2016 Ford Super Duty truck, was traveling west in the left lane of GA 2, approaching the Escape from its rear.

Because of suspected alcohol impairment and distracted driving by the truck’s operator, Hunter Elliot, 23, of Blue Ridge, the truck struck the rear of the Escape.  The front passenger of the Escape, Santana Kelley, 23, of Shannon, was air lifted to Erlanger ER with serious injuries.  The rear passenger, 2-year-old Cohen Bryson,  was transported to Fannin Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased due to his injuries.

The state patrol report says the driver of the Escape, Joshua Bryson, 24, of Rome, escaped injury. However, friends and family say he’s also being treated for injuries. We’ll have more later today.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this ongoing investigation.  Charges are pending the outcome.
