From the Georgia State Patrol:
On Wednesday, March 11, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a 2006 Hyundai Sonata was traveling on Ga. 1 in the left turning lane that leads to the Ga. Connector. A semi-tractor trailer was traveling south on Ga. 1 in the right lane. The driver of Sonata failed to yield and made and improper turn, traveling west into the eastbound lane of the Ga. 6 Connector.
The front of the semi made impact to the right side of Sonata. After impact, the truck jackknifed and began rotating in a clockwise manner before leaving the south shoulder of the roadway and striking a yield sign. The Sonata then entered a ditch and struck an embankment. It rotated counter clockwise across the southbound lanes, through the grassy median, and then into the northbound lanes of GA 1.
A third vehicle, a Mack truck, was traveling on GA 1 in the right lane and struck the right side of Sonata as it entered the right lane. The Sonata then rotated clockwise a second time and came to an uncontrolled final rest in the left northbound lane of Ga. 1, facing north. After impact, the Mack truck continued northbound and traveled across the grassy median and through the southbound lanes of Ga. 1 where it struck a guardrail with its front.
After impact with the guardrail, the Sonata traveled down a steep embankment and came to an uncontrolled final rest in a ditch facing west. The driver, Carolyn Jackson, age 59 of Rockmart, was pronounced deceased on scene by the coroner.
The report is not complete.
