Eric Tant said it wouldn’t be long before he had a name and new concept for the former Johnny’s New York Style Pizza at 233 Broad St. Tant, who owns Knucklehead’s in Rockmart, has some of the first signs up at the downtown Rome location.

Also in the window: The required notice that Tant has applied to the Rome Alcohol Control Commission for a beer/wine/liquor pouring license. The meeting is set for Monday at 5 p.m.

Up next: More on what concept or genre Tant will offer at 233 Broad St. As he said in an earlier interview, “We will have another exciting restaurant opening in downtown Rome soon and we look forward to continuing the growth downtown.”

One familiar touch fans already have spotted: Look at the logo and spot the skillet.

He’s leasing the spot from Bob Blumberg who did major renovations to open Johnny’s nearly 11 years ago. Late last year, he flipped formats to LYRIKZ but closed soon after when he struck a deal with Tant.

Expect Valentine’s Day crowds today at area restaurants. Friday night is one thing; a Valentine’s Day Friday night is another. Be sure to check with your restaurant of choice before going out this evening. Some spots already were out of reserved seats last week.
