Mrs. Debbie Cooper McEver, age 64, of Cave Spring, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at a local healthcare facility following a battle with cancer.

Mrs. McEver was born in Rome, Georgia on April 12, 1955, daughter of the late William Gerald Cooper and the late Mary Jones Cooper.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph S. Roach, Jr.  Mrs. McEver was of the Christian faith and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James H. McEver, Jr., to whom she was married on August 2, 1980; two sons, Miles McEver, Cave Spring and Cody McEver, Rome; a daughter, Keidrah Wilson (Brian), Rome; two grandchildren, Brinley Wilson and Mari Klaire Wilson; three sisters, Gwendolyn Anderson, Sandra Simms and Patricia Hulsey; a brother, Otha Roach; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Byars officiating.  Interment will follow in Georgia National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 5 until 7pm.

Mr. James Mitchell Pilcher, age 73, of Rome, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020, at a local hospital.

Mr. Pilcher was born in Rome, Georgia on October 25, 1946, son of the late James Arthur Pilcher and the late Deloma Hall Pilcher.  He was a member of South Broad Baptist Church.  Prior to retirement, he worked for many years as a Hyster Driver.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Thomas Pilcher, to whom he was married on February 14, 1979; 6 children, Rodger Dale Pilcher, Kingston, Mitchell Scott Pilcher, Kingston, David Jerome Pilcher, Rome, Christopher Shawn Pilcher, Kingston, Roger Thomas, Lindale and Stephanie Haney, Silver Creek; two brothers, John David Pilcher, Rome and Barry Keith Pilcher, Calhoun; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 1pm at South Broad Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 5 until 7pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Thursday at 12:30pm and include; Zachary Pilcher, Kyle Thomas, Tyler Pilcher, Glenn Sexton, Billy Price and Chris Carden.

Ben L. Crawford, age 90, of Shannon, GA, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020.

Mr. Crawford was born in Knoxville, TN on January 29, 1929, son of the late Leon and Louise Humbard Crawford.  He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, TN, where he was a football standout.

Mr. Crawford leaves behind a daughter, Karen Lee, of Rome, GA, and a sister, Martha Slack, brother-in-law, Bill Slack, Athens, niece, Jennifer Amos, Athens, nephew, Wes Popiel, Thomasville, GA, niece, Denise Stinnett of Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law, Harriett Witt and brother-in-law, Andrew Witt, Chattanooga, as well as other nieces and nephews.  Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Witt Crawford and grandson, Paul Kevin Lee.

Mr. Crawford was a member of the Rome Mineral Society for 50 years where he served in many capacities as well as president and historian,  He was on the education staff and a vital part of the Weinman Mineral Museum with exhibits and demonstrations lending his knowledge and expertise while winning many awards.  He worked with the Young Scholars Program and many schools inspiring and educating young people with his knowledge of minerals, gem faceting and carving.  Mr. Crawford taught geology classes at Shorter College when needed in this capacity and was a master soap-stone carver leaving behind over 29 marine life carvings to be donated to an aquarium in his name.  upon retirement, Mr. Crawford was a volunteer with Mercy Senior Care.  He served in the United States Naval Reserves.

At his request, Mr. Crawford was cremated, and a Life Celebration will be announced at a later date.

Rev. Chester Martin, aka Mr. Goodwrench, age 80, of Shannon passed away Saturday January 11, 2020 at a local hospital.

Mr. Martin was born on February 5, 1939 in Bartow County to the late Henry Martin and Allie Lewis Martin. Chester was a lifelong resident of Floyd County and the Shannon community. He was a faithful servant to the Lord for over 50 years and pastored Mt. Calvary Baptist Church until his retirement but he never stopped spreading the “Good News” of Jesus’ Love for us. Chester was a mighty prayer warrior and prayed over his prayer list and every prayer request every morning and night. He worked as an auto body mechanic and body shop manager in Rome for over 50 years.

He married the love of his life Geraldine Posey Martin when she was 13 years old and they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage in March. He is now reunited with his loving daughter Angela Martin Scoggins, his parents Henry and Allie Martin, as well as several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by three daughters and their spouses: Donna Autry (Sidney), Debbie Jackson (Paul), and Tammy Moreno (Joe); grandchildren: Misty House, Lamar House (Jennifer), Amanda Kines (Billy), Donny Jackson (Kaley), Chelsey Rinker (Thomas), Zach Millsap (Lisa), Justin Millsap (Ashley), Chesly Millsap ( Allison), and Chelsea Dotson (Jamie); several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; sister: Carolyn Shuler, of Mableton, and Bertha Scow, of California

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday January 14, 2020 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Diggs, and Justin Millsap officiating. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service hour on Tuesday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen: Justin Millsap, Lamar House, Donny Jackson, Chesly Millsap, Zach Millsap, Billy Kines, Honorary Pallbearers: Jeffery House, Rylan Millsap, Regan Millsap.
