More than a few eyes have spotted some work under way at the northwest corner of Ga. 53 and Ga. 140 in Shannon, the so-called “100-acre” industrial site that is on the market for $3.85 million. Now covering 110 acres and prepped for any newcomers, the North Floyd Industrial Rail Site is seeing some activity. We stopped for a quick photo last Friday after noticing earthmovers on the site.
What we learned: This simply is some dirt being moved from the site to accommodate expansion plans announced earlier this year by Ball Corp. The dirt transfer is among the incentives for Ball’s multimillion-dollar expansion plans in the area.
Says Missy Kendrick, president and CEO of the Rome Floyd County Development Authority: “Yes, the dirt from our 110-acre site is being moved to the Ball site. This helps us balance our site and also helps Ball with their construction project.”
