We probably couldn’t have picked a better apples-and-oranges choice of new restaurants for this feature. We wanted to bring you some early impressions of Aventine on West Third Street in Rome’s River District as well as The Farmhouse Restaurant on Martha Berry in Armuchee.

One spot is aiming at a higher-end market while the other is so southern that the chef included minced boiled eggs in the dressing (which didn’t go unnoticed in two of the “reviews” below).

The comments are straight out of Facebook. Both restaurants have yet to land on Yelp!, another popular social media forum for dining and other services. The names of those who wrote comments on each restaurant’s Facebook review section are not included below. You’ll find them on those Facebook pages, however, if you want to check for accuracy.

  • Aventine is a great addition to Rome. A great spot for drinks, dinner or both. Very modern design with a relaxing atmosphere! The staff is very friendly and inviting! The food is creative and delicious.
  • The food was absolutely delicious. The Brussel sprouts are life changing. I loved that no creativity was spared with this menu. There is something for everyone and nothing on the menu is like anything you’ve tasted before. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Attention to detail was not spared in the design of this space. I can definitely see myself sitting here for hours, getting caught up with friends and family. I’m already looking forward to our next visit!
  • Really good food and the service was wonderful.
  • The love of what they do resonates in the food and service.

That’s chicken and dressing, green beans, a roll and another side from The Farmhouse Kitchen now open in Armuchee. Facebook photo.

What the reviewers are saying on Facebook:

  • Ordered a take out order the other day; must say the meatloaf is awesome! Asked for mashed potatoes and okra but got green bean casserole and okra instead but that’s OK. It was awesome reguardless! Definitely recommend.
  • We went there to eat today really enjoyed the food delicious! The staff was great! The manager was real nice. I recommend this place to anyone that wants some delicious food at at reasonable price. Large portions · Great food · Comfort food · Cozy atmosphere.
  • Wonderful home cooking and great friendly, fast service.
  • Great home cooked food! Beautifully decorated and great staff! Will definitely be back.
  • Absolutely phenomenal; the food is great. The service was great. Homestyle atmosphere. We will be back Sunday for the bean bar.
  • I had the fried pork chop with greens, green beans, and fried corn! Everything was wonderful! The greens tasted a little like canned greens but other than that they were delicious! Portions are a good size and the price is great! We had two adult dinners and two child dinners for only $24. Definitely will be going back.
  • The floors were disgusting as one of the workers kept wiping tables of crumbs onto the floor. The beans I had to scoop out of a crock pot and it wasn’t enough to even fill my bowl. The chicken and dressing had chopped up eggs in it. The girl that served us was sweet but we had to ask for our cornbread and rolls. I got sweet tea after asking for unsweet and I had to ask for sweetener.
  • Put chopped eggs in my dressing. That’s southern!
  • Great home cooking also we got the chef salad today; definetly will order again. Comfort food.
  • Everything was good except the chicken livers; overcooked but everything else was great.
