Mr. James William Ramsey, age 83, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, in a local hospital.
Mr. Ramsey was born in Atlanta, GA, on October 1, 1936, son of the late Marion Lester Ramsey and Gladys Odessa Daniels Ramsey. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War and was particularly proud of his assignment to the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles”, where he made many airborne deployments.
He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1985, moving here from the Atlanta area. In his early years Mr. Ramsey had worked as a mechanic, owned a body shop and a taxi company, and prior to retirement, was a truck driver. He was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church of Shannon and a member of East Floyd Masonic Lodge #728 F&AM. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by a sister, Gaynelle McGuire, and two brothers, W.L. Ramsey and David Ramsey.
Mr. Ramsey is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy “Nell” Ramsey; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and David Shore of Atlanta, and Rhonda and Juan Rocha of Cedartown, GA, and Tonya Ramsey of Moyock, NC; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip William and Jessica Ramsey of Cassville, GA; two sisters and brother-in-law, Cherri and Jackie Green, and Betty Crowley; two brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Marie Ramsey, and Marion Ramsey. Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relative and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Ramsey will be Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home. Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 4, 2019, with military rites conferred by the American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post Five Honor Guard.
Mr. Ramsey’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home Friday, November 29, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Michael Anthony Martin, age 51, of Cedartown, Ga. transitioned November 24, 2019. Service for Mr. Michael Anthony Martin will be Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1 pm at Worldview Baptist Church (500 N College Dr. Cedartown, Ga. 30125). Mr. Martin will lie instate from noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow the service at Northview Cemetery. F. K. Jones Funeral Home.
Mrs. Charlotte B. Britt, age 86, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Britt was born in Rome, GA on March 10, 1933, daughter of the late Walter Ray Cadle and the late Elsie Ramsey Cadle. Mrs. Britt was a lifelong member of Fellowship Baptist Church and participated in several different ministries of the church. She was a reading instructor at Elm Street Elementary School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John W. Britt, Jr., and by her brothers, James Cadle and Sonny Cadle.
Mrs. Britt is survived by her children, Donna Bojo (Jim), Janice Steed (Barry) and John Britt III; her grandchildren, Jennifer Starr (Scott), Brian Bojo (Jenny) and Jonathan Steed; her great grandchildren, Ashlyn Starr, Haley Starr, Owen Starr, Skylar Starr, Mary Kate Bojo, Claire Bojo and Tucker Bojo; her sister, Betty Wigley; her brother, Paul Cadle; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with Dr. Dale Levan officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:30 pm and include: Brian Bojo, Jim Bojo, Tom Bojo, Tucker Bojo, Dennis Johnston, Barry Steed and Jeff Wigley.

Mr. Gene Walton Gilbreath, age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Gilbreath was born in Rome, GA on October 15, 1940, son of the late Earnest Walton Gilbreath and the late Dealva Fuller Gilbreath. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Mac Gilbreath, and by 3 sisters. Mr. Gilbreath was a graduate of Armuchee High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a former manager at Southern Bell/Bell South/ AT&T and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Gilbreath was a longtime member of American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard. He was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Jane Elizabeth “Libby” Atchley Gilbreath, to whom he was married on February 1, 1962; daughter, Sherri Gilbreath-Peek (David), Rome; son, Jeff Gilbreath (Danette Edwards), Rome; 3 grandchildren, Savannah Sampson, Rome, Dalton Gilbreath, Rome, and Jake Gilbreath, Armuchee; great-grandson, Carson Bailey, Rome; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Mac McCurry officiating. Interment will follow in Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Sunday from 2 pm until 5 pm.

Mrs. Linda Ellen Waters, age 73, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019, at a local hospital.
Linda was born on September 23, 1946 and died on November 24, 2019. She is survived by her sister Mimi (Oscar) Fallin; son Michael (Judith) Crumbock; stepson Christopher (Jennifer) Waters; nieces, Chris (Paul) Kelly; Lisa (Peter) Iberson; and Donna (Matthew) Lippman; and by a dozen grand nieces, grand nephews, and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James “Bo” Waters.
A native of Florida, Linda had lived in Rome for many years and was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in her memory to Heyman HospiceCare @ Floyd or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
