It was 55 degrees at midnight. Tuesday afternoon at 8 p.m., it was 27 and sliding.

Rainfall and gusts since 10 p.m. Monday:

  • Rome: 0.59 of an inch. Gusts: 33 mph.
  • Power outages: 0.51 of an inch. Gusts: 24 mph.

The Salvation Army will operating under White Flag conditions Tuesday and Wednesday, which means additional beds are made available when temperatures drop below 32 degrees. Donations of hot chocolate, coffee, styrofoam cups, and breakfast items are appreciated. OUTLOOK:

  • Freeze warning, 7 tonight-10 a.m. Wednesday for Floyd, Bartow, Polk and Chattooga counties: Subfreezing temperatures as low as 24 possible. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation; watch unprotected outdoor plumbing.
  • Hazardous weather outlook: Low temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s and low 30s area-wide. Isolated areas may see wind chills in the single digits across the higher elevations overnight tonight, with wind chill values in the teens and lower 20s across the rest of the area. This will pose a threat for anyone outside without proper protection from the cold. It is also possible there may be some very isolated slick spots across smaller roads or roads where there may be standing water overnight tonight. Caution should be exercised if traveling in these areas, particularly in the higher elevations.
