High school football rankings: From the AJC:

  • 5A: Rome, 8-2 and idle last week, rises from sixth to no. 3.
  • 4A: Cartersville, which ended the regular season 10-0, remains no. 1.
  • 2A: Rockmart, also undefeated entering the playoffs, holds at no. 1.
  • 1A Private: Darlington drops from fourth to ninth in the 1A Private rankings after Friday’s defeat.

A look at first round playoffs on Friday:

Class 2A:

  • Chattooga at Callaway
  • Model at Bremen
  • Heard County at Pepperell
  • Temple at Rockmart

Class 3A:

  • Calhoun will host Morgan Co.
  • Sonoraville at Jefferson
  • Adairsville leads the power ratings for the wild card slot and would play at Jenkins

Class 4A:

  • Cedartown at Marist
  • Cartersville will host Flowery Branch

Class 5A: Rome will host Lithonia


Georgia no. 5 in latest AP poll. With two major upsets on Saturday, Georgia was able to climb to no. 5 in the AP Top 25 College Football rankings on Sunday.

On top are LSU, Ohio State and Clemson with Alabama — defeated by LSU on Saturday — in the no. 4 spot. Florida drops to no. 11 after blowing out Vanderbilt while Auburn is 13th.
