Mrs. Virginia Louise Tucker Edwards, age 90, of Rome passed away Tuesday November 5, 2019 in a local health care facility.

Mrs. Edwards was born July 25, 1929, Etowah, County Alabama, a daughter of the late Fred Tucker, and Bertis Tucker Watson. She was a member of Silver Creek Church of God, and was retired from Kellogg’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Edwards, daughter, Brenda Edwards Camp, sons, Rogers, Michael, Steve, and David Edwards, two grandchildren, Marci Edwards, and Brian Wells, several siblings.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy (Vivian) Edwards, Rome; daughter in laws, Danette Edwards, Nancy Edwards, 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday November 8, 2019, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Herman Stamey, officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive one hour prior to the service on Friday, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.


Mrs. Alta Virginia “Jenny” Erwin, age 92, of Lindale, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Erwin was born in Wayne County, KY on March 2, 1927, daughter of the late Green Lee Alley and Effie Jane Hurley Alley.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Parrish Erwin, Jr., by 2 daughters, Gay Erwin and Diane Weathington, by 3 sons, David Erwin, Henry P. Erwin, III, and Richard Erwin, and by several siblings.  A homemaker, Mrs. Erwin was an avid bowler at the Floyd County Lanes before failing health.  She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 children, Debbie Jett (Danny), Rome, Harold Erwin (Sherri), Aragon, and Barbara Bentley (C. L.), Gaylesville, AL; a brother, Lee Alley, Gadsden, AL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

All services will be private.

Kenneth L. Johnson Jr., 62, of Rome., Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6. Born Jan. 11, 1957, he was the son of Myrtis Johnson and the late Kenneth L. Johnson Sr.

A 1975 graduate of Cedar Grove High School, he studied at Georgia Southern University. He served with honor as a police officer with the Statesboro Police Department from 1979 to 1982, and as an EMT with Bulloch County EMS Paramedic from 1976 to 1982. A police officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department from 1984 to 2008, he was named Gwinnett County Police Officer of the Year in 1999 for bravely entering a burning home to rescue a victim and extinguish the fire.

A dedicated public servant and true family man in every sense of the word, he could always be counted on when someone needed a helping hand. He was an avid fisherman, devoted fan of John Wayne and lover of dogs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth L. Johnson Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Cindy Shaw Johnson of Rome; his daughters, Darcie Johnson of Rockmart; and Megan Johnson Wells (Zach Wells, husband) of Gainesville; and son Kristoffer Johnson (Avery, wife) of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
