Creekside Restaurant and Catering offers one of the most relaxing views for dining in Cave Spring (and Northwest Georgia), inside or out. Facebook photo.
That’s Herb and one of his guests during the last few days of Ballenger’s.

Herb Ballenger back in the kitchen, now at Creekside Restaurant & Catering in Cave Spring: How do you identify a great restaurant? How about when people talk about the wonderful meals and good times they had at a certain spot — three years after it closed? That’s the case for Ballenger’s, the weekend go-to oasis off U.S. 27 in suburban Subligna south of Summerville which closed in September 2016.

Opening some eyes this week was this post about another favorite, also kind of out of the way and also a little funky on its own, Creekside Restaurant and Catering in Cave Spring. But the post is under the Ballenger’s Facebook page, still followed by nearly 2,300 fans.

“Are you looking for a great venue and outstanding food for a holiday party or gathering for your business or social group? Come to beautiful and historic Cave Spring and have your outing at Creekside Restaurant & Catering. Call Tim or Herb at 706-381-2200 to book your group’s special gathering. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks!”

That Tim is Tim Ayers, the barbecue ace who took his love for cooking to the revitalized Creekside. That Herb is Herb Ballenger, the maestro behind the former restaurant who always had a handful of weekend menus nearby to promote the business one-on-one, even in the aisles of Kroger.

Creekside is open for lunch Thursdays through Saturday, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. It also is available for catering services and other needs.

Sidebar: A belated happy birthday to Martha who celebrated no. 85 in September. No visit to Ballenger’s was complete without some usually snarky interaction with Martha.

Barterhouse Bar and Grill is opening soon off U.S. 278 just east of Prospect Street in Rockmart. The new restaurant received a 100 in its initial Public Health restaurant inspection on Tuesday. A note on the restaurant’s Facebook page had this update: ”

“We are getting ready for you guys . . . We will be sure to keep you guys posted on our opening day so you can grab some delicious food.”
