Obituaries: Mr. Robert Bryant Abney Sr., Mr. Albert Jeffery Estes, Judith Monita Jeter Masters, Mrs. Sara Rebecca Davis Sanders, Ms. Charlotte Marie Williams.

Mr. Robert Bryant Abney Sr., 92, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday morning, November 2, 2019, in a local hospital.

Mr. Abney was born in Lindale, GA on September 3, 1927, son of the late William Bryant Abney and the late Julia Alice Mathis Abney.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jo George Abney, by a son, Robert B. Abney Jr., by a granddaughter, Megan Abney, by a sister, Mildred Lumpkin, and by 5 brothers, Raiden, James, Ralph, Joe, and the Rev. W. G. Abney.

Mr. Abney was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during World War II.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Southern Bell for many years.  He was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Annette Abney Willkie, Silver Creek; 2 sons, Edward W. Abney, Silver Creek, and Mark J. Abney, Cave Spring; a brother, Rev. Billy John Abney, Macon; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 4pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Dr. Philip May and the Rev. Billy Fricks will officiate with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard extending military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 2pm until the service hour.

Ms. Charlotte Marie Williams, age 82, of Rome, Ga., transitioned November 1, 2019. We will Celebrate the Life of Ms. Charlotte Marie Williams on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Thankful Baptist Church in Rome, Ga. at 1 pm. Ms. Williams will lie instate from noon until the funeral hour.

Interment will follow the Celetbration at Morning View Cemetery (Hwy 53, Rome, Ga.).

Mrs. Sara Rebecca Davis Sanders, age 91, of Summerville, passed away Sunday November 3, 2019.

Mrs. Sanders was born November 27, 1927, in Monroe NC. A daughter of the late George Washington Davis, and Betty Clyde Brock Davis. Mrs. Sanders was a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Sanders.

Survivors include her daughter, Marcy (Jim) Parker, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday November 5, 2019 at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Judith Monita Jeter Masters (Judy), born October 2, 1938 in Elizabeth, Louisiana, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 2, 2019.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband, Wayne A. Masters, Her parents: Elma Owens and Ulyses J. Jeter, Granddaughter, Alexandra R. Chamness and sister, Janice Cantrell.

Survivors include:

Children: Steven Masters (Vickie), Rome, Deborah Bohannon (Hal), Rome, Michael Masters (Trish), Knoxville, TN, Diana Masters, Rome and Rob Masters (Karen), Rome.

Grandchildren: Christian Marcum (Deryck), Roswell, Chelsey Masters, Atlanta, Rebekah Bohannon, Chattanooga, TN, Bo Bohannon, (Autumn) Rome, Stephen Bohannon (Katie) Augusta, Anna Masters Knoxville, TN, Kennan Masters, Knoxville, TN, Sydney Pledger (Josh), Skylar Chamness, Rome, Cooper Chamness, Rome, David Masters, Rome, Benjamin Masters (JoAnna), Kennesaw and Mary Ellen Masters, Rome., Eight Great-Grandchildren and many special friends.

Judy graduated from Rome High School in 1956 and lived many years in the Atlanta area before returning to Rome. She faithfully served her Lord and Savior many years at West Rome Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church. Serving in the Choir, working in the nursery and supporting missions. She treasured serving on a mission trip to Venezuela.

Her focus was serving others and enjoying family and friends. Blessed with the gift of sewing and smocking and handwork which she passed on to future generations. For many years she supplied Floyd Medical Center with handcrafted preemie baby gowns and hats for these precious small babies. She called it “Lexie’s Closet” in honor of her granddaughter who died in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for Foreign Missions or to the Fellowship Baptist Church Children’s Department improvements.

Pallbearers are: Bo Bohannon, Stephen Bohannon, Kennan Masters, David Masters, Ben Masters, Cooper Chamness, Deryck Marcum and Ethan Marcum.

Service conducted by Dr. Dale Lavan and Michael Masters, and will be held Tuseday at 2:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of service at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.


Mr. Albert Jeffery Estes, 58, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Sunday, Novemebr 3, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Services are incomplete at this time but will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary.
