Sunday: Christmas Village returns to the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville. The third annual event includes 79 vendors with items for gift giving and Christmas decor for your home. Sunday: Elevating Lives Concert featuring Josh Wilson at the Rome City Auditorium, 3 p.m. The concert features award-winning Contemporary Christian, singer-songwriter Josh Wilson. This concert is the first marquee event for Elevation House. Elevation House is a nonprofit organization that serves adults with serious mental illness in the Rome and surrounding counties. Thursday-Sunday: The 16th Annual Rome International Film Festival returns to the Historic DeSoto Theatre and Rome City Auditorium. Click here for film guide and schedule. Some key events:
- Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Rome Riverwalk, there will be special screening of “Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero” open to the public and their furry, four-legged family members.
- Friday at 7 p.m. will be screening of “Rubén Blades is Not My Name” at the Rome City Auditorium followed by a Salsa Dance Party at Brewhouse Music & Grill. Tickets to the film and party are $35 or $10 for film only. http://bit.ly/RIFFRubenBlades.
- Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. Filmmakers and the public are invited to tour some of Rome’s film attractions with insights into how those locations were selected along with fun facts about films in Rome. The tour will be held on the Roman Rose Trolley and will depart from the Downtown Welcome Center at 300 W. First St. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online RomeGeorgia.org/Tours or or in-person at Welcome Center & Gift Shop locations.
- Saturday at 7 p.m. will be the marquee presentation of “Sgt. Will Gardner” by Max Martini, whose previous film credits include Saving Private Ryan, 13 Hours, Captain Phillips, Pacific Rim and The Unit (television). RIFF will be donating 15 percent of ticket sales from the film to the Gary Sinise Foundation and 15 percent to The Davies Homeless Shelter. Following the film, RIFF will host a Q&A session with Max Martini, Producer Mike Hagerty and CSM Eric Haney.
Friday-Saturday: The “Christmas in November” Homemakers Bazaar, now named in memory of Margaret Gayler, returns to the Rome Civic Center this Friday and Saturday. Hours: Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features handmade crafts and homemade foods, canned foods. Free admission and door prizes.
Saturday-Sunday: Christmas Open House in Downtown Cave Spring. Downtown retailers will be open for the start of holiday shopping at 10 a.m. The Peddler will have refreshments along with Virginia Shaw playing the piano from 11 a.m. -3 p.m. on Saturday, asll we classes on bows, ribbon and floral demonstrations at 11a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. both days.
