Mr. James Tillman Fricks Sr., age 92, of Shannon, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at a local hospital.
Mr. Fricks was born in Westminster, South Carolina on February 6, 1927, son of the late Joe Tillman Fricks and the late Essie James Fricks. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Beth Shaw Fricks, on May 16, 2012, by a brother, David Fricks, and by two sisters, Marilyn Gould and Betty Jo Neururer.
Mr. Fricks was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II. During his time in the Navy, he was a certified NTSCH Signalman and obtained the rank of Quartermaster Third Class. Mr. Fricks worked for 39 years at the mill in Shannon, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Shannon United Methodist Church. Mr. Fricks was a pilot and loved airplanes and trains. He loved the Lord and his family and was still driving his little white truck at 92 years old.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy A. Smith, Cookeville, TN, and Ellen Harrison (Dale), Shannon; a son, James “Tillman” Fricks Jr. (Wendy), Rydal; six grandchildren, Wesley Harrison, Rome, Eric Harrison, Shannon, Erin Leap, Hermitage, TN, Dean Fricks, Rydal, Kelsey Robinson, Cartersville and Karen Allen, Adairsville; two great grandchildren, Mason Leap, Hermitage, TN, and Abby Harrison, Rome; a sister, Brenda Patterson, Dalton; a brother, Fred Fricks, Shannon; special friend, Ricky Williamson; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Ken Freshour officiating. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 1pm until 2:45pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday at 2:30pm and include; Dean Fricks, Wesley Harrison, Eric Harrison, Patrick Leap, Ricky Williamson and Nathan Self.
Mr. Jimmy Marshall Green, age 81, of Rome, GA, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Green was born in Floyd County, GA on January 13, 1938, son of the late J. M. Green and the late Frances Victoria Warren Green. He was a graduate of Armuchee High School in the class of 1957. He later attended Georgia Tech, Southern Tech and Coosa Valley Tech. Mr. Green owned and operated the first hardware store in Armuchee, J. M. Green & Sons Hardware. He was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church. Mr. Green was known for being dedicated, devoted, and loving to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Pirkle Green; a daughter, Tonie Hall (John), Calhoun; 2 sons, Terry Marshall Green (Tammy), Calhoun, and Michael Steven Green, Rome; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Green will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at Mr. Green’s home. The Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate.

Mr. Horace Steven “Steve” Shaw, age 67, of Rome, GA, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Shaw was born in Floyd County, GA on May 5, 1952, son of the former Mildred Rampley and the late Horace Grover Shaw. He was a 1970 graduate of West Rome High School and received his Associate degree in business from Floyd College. Mr. Shaw was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served from 1972 until 1976. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic with Georgia Power Company. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Coosa Lodge #622 F. & A. M. He was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church and a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Pisgah Baptist Church. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Georgia Wrestling Association and a newly inducted member into the Georgia chapter of the National High School Wrestling Hall of Fame, after being a referee for 39 years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Donna Ann Baker, to whom he was married on October 6, 1974; daughter, Jennifer Parrott, Emerson; son, Chris Shaw (Amanda), Dallas, GA; his mother, Mildred Rampley Shaw, Rome; 6 grandchildren, Kenny Parrott, Lana Parrott, Malorie Parrott, Tyson Shaw, Beckett Shaw and Lily Blalock; 2 sisters, Linda Camp (John), Rome, and Sandra Barker (Stanley), Rome; brother, Tommy Shaw (Cherrie), Armuchee; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 1pm at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with Dr. Philip May officiating and his son, Chris Shaw, delivering the eulogy. Interment services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 11:30am at Georgia National Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church on Thursday from 11am until 12:45pm.

Mrs. Annice Elizabeth Cook Gresham, age 71, of Perry, GA, formerly of Centre, AL, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019, in Warner Robins, GA.
Mrs. Gresham was born in Rome, Georgia on November 24, 1947, daughter of the late Rev. Grady Cook and the late Annice Christine Lankford Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elliott Sidney Gresham, Sr., by the father of her children, Walker Ray Stone, by a granddaughter, Bayleigh Caldwell, and by two sisters, her twin sister, Rachel Louise Driver, and Gail Dunn. Mrs. Gresham worked for a number of years in retail sales and was a member of Life Church and Life Seniors in Perry.
Survivors include two daughters, Ginger Darline Caldwell (Jason), Bonaire, and Connie Sue Stone, Dallas; a grandson, Austin Caldwell, Bonaire; two sisters, June Morrison, Centre, and Betty Singleton, Austin, TX; two brothers, Larry Cook, Columbia, TN, and Randy Cook, Byron; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Bro. Mark Willingham and Sister Joe Lane Kirk officiating and her brother, Randy Cook, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
