Rome native Chris Crumbly, the University of Tennessee Space Institute’s Senior Director for Space and Defense Programs, has received two awards from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Specifically, Crumbly received the 2019 Von Braun Award for Excellence in Space Program Management from the AIAA Foundation and the 2019 Earl Pearce Professional of the Year Award from the Greater Huntsville Section of the AIAA. Honors for local gym: Workout Anytime Rome, in the Etowah Crossing shopping center off Hicks Drive, has won top awards at National Conference for Cleanliness and Operational Excellence and another for Customer Satisfaction. Owner Mark Sentell accepted on behalf of staff.
The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center and Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful will host a Scrap Tire Amnesty day for Rome and Floyd County residents at State Mutual Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The limit will be eight tires and/or two tractor tires per vehicle. Commercial tires will not be accepted. Emma Wells, Director of KRFB, secured a grant from state environmental officials to handle the hauling and recycling of these tires. The Recycling Center staff will coordinate the event next week.
