Cartersville’s close win over Central of Carrollton dropped the Purple Hurricanes from Number 1 to Number 2 in Class 4A in this week’s high school football rankings compiled by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia High School Football Daily. The Rockmart Yellow Jackets remained at the top of Class 3A, while the Rome Wolves moved up a spot to Number 7 in Class 5A and the Darlington Tigers maintained their Number 4 ranking among Class A private schools.

Darlington, along with all eight teams in Region 7-AA, are off this Friday night as the high temperatures finally fade away and a feeling of fall finally enters Northwest Georgia. Cartersville and Unity Christian continue their quests for unbeaten seasons with several other key contests for playoff berths, including Adairsville-Calhoun, Hiram-Cass, Cedartown-Central of Carrollton, and Haralson County-Sonoraville, highlighting the week of action. 


Class 5A Number 7 Rome (4-2, 3-1) at East Paulding (0-5, 0-3)

  • Series History: Rome leads 9-6
  • Last Meeting: Rome defeated East Paulding 62-14 on October 5, 2018
  • The Rome Wolves built up a 35-0 lead by halftime and used a running clock in the second half in a 31-0 win over Woodland. The East Paulding Raiders are off to their first 0-5 start since 2003 following a 28-21 loss to Hiram. Rome wins by more than 30.

Unity Christian School (7-0) at Harvester Christian Academy (4-3)

  • Series History: UCS leads 2-1
  • Last Meeting: UCS defeated Harvester Christian 32-23 on August 24, 2018
  • The UCS Lions, whose last win on the field came in a 58-21 victory over Johnson Ferry Christian Academy on September 20, increased their record to 7-0 with a forfeit win over Nathaniel Greene Academy two weeks ago before having Friday night off. The Harvester Christian Hawks are 4-3 after a win over Camp Jewell House. Unity Christian wins by more than 30.

Adairsville (3-3, 2-2) at Calhoun (4-1, 2-1)

  • Series History: Calhoun leads 20-9
  • Last Meeting: Calhoun defeated Adairsville 61-0 on October 5, 2018
  • The Adairsville Tigers found themselves embroiled in a back and forth game on Friday night before surviving in a 22-21 win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. The Calhoun Yellow Jackets were off Friday night following a 48-3 win the previous week over Ringgold. Calhoun wins by more than 30.

Class 4A Number 2 Cartersville (6-0, 2-0) at LaGrange (2-3, 0-2)

  • Series History: LaGrange leads 5-3
  • Last Meeting: Cartersville defeated LaGrange 45-7 on October 5, 2018
  • The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes kept the longest regular season winning streak in the state alive after a much closer than expected 16-14 win over Central of Carrollton. The LaGrange Grangers, who had come within three points of defeating that same Central team a week ago, fell to 0-2 in Region 5-AAAA after a 51-6 loss to Cedartown. Wins this week by Cartersville and Sandy Creek will set up a showdown on October 18 betweentwo of the best Class 4A teams in the state.Cartersville wins by more than 30. 

Hiram (3-2, 3-0) at Cass (3-3, 2-2)

  • Series History: Hiram leads 3-2
  • Last Meeting: Hiram defeated Cass 34-21 on October 5, 2018
  • The Hiram Hornets, who opened the season with losses to Class 6A Harrison and South Paulding, are undefeated in Region 7-AAAAA after defeating East Paulding 28-21. The Cass Colonels fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in region play following a 50-14 loss to Carrollton. The winner of this game will have the inside track for a playoff spot from region 7-AAAAA. Hiram wins by 6.

 Woodland (1-5, 0-4) at Class 5A Number 2 Carrollton (6-0, 4-0)

  • Series History: Carrollton leads 3-0
  • Last Meeting: Carrollton defeated Woodland 47-20 on October 5, 2018
  • The Woodland Wildcats were able to generate little offense in a 41-0 loss at Rome. The Carrollton Trojans showed once again why they are ranked among the top teams in the state after a 50-14 win over Cass. Carrollton wins by more than 30. 

Haralson County (5-0, 3-0) at Sonoraville (3-2, 2-1)

  • Series History: Sonoraville leads 2-1
  • Last Meeting: Haralson County defeated Sonoraville 26-23 on October 5, 2018
  • The Haralson County Rebels, who were a surprise team in 2018, remained unbeaten in a 46-14 win at home over Coahulla Creek. The Sonoraville Phoenix won for the second week in a row in a 41-0 shutout defeat of Ringgold. Haralson County wins by 1. 

Cedartown (2-4, 1-1) at Central of Carrollton (3-3, 1-1)

  • Series History: Cedartown leads 15-10
  • Last Meeting: Cedartown defeated Central 48-17 on October 5, 2018
  • The Cedartown Bulldogs evened their Region 5-AAAA record at 1-1 after a dominating 51-6 win over LaGrange. The Central Lions almost pulled off the biggest upset in the state before falling 16-14 to top ranked Cartersville. Cedartown wins by 14. 

Trion (5-1, 3-0) at Class A Private Number 10 Christian Heritage (4-1, 1-1)

  • Series History: Trion leads 5-2
  • Last Meeting: Trion defeated Christian Heritage 26-7 on October 5, 2018
  • The Trion Bulldogs moved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 6-A after defeating Mt. Zion 12-6. The Christian Heritage Lions fell from the ranks of the undefeated after a 29-22 loss on Homecoming Night at Darlington. Christian Heritage wins by 7.
