Pelosi says House to open impeachment inquiry. Trump: ‘More breaking news Witch Hunt garbage.’ Perdue says opponents ‘weaponized politics,’ calls process ‘premature.’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announces the U.S. House of Representatives will open an official impeachment inquiry involving Donald Trump. According to NBC News: “Pelosi’s change of heart comes as dozens of House Democrats — now more than two-thirds of the caucus — have come out in support of an impeachment inquiry in the wake of reports that Trump may have withheld aid to Ukraine to pressure officials there to investigate the son of political rival Joe Biden.”

Trump, in a flurry of Tweets, responds:

“Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our country!”

From U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ga.

“Based on a report they have never seen, about a conversation they never heard, from a person they have never met, the Speaker and her following have decided to drag our country into a mess. The consequences will be severe. Our legislative process will grind to a halt and economic progress will be put at risk. Instead of tackling issues like immigration, infrastructure and trade, our country will be stuck in the grip of leftist hysteria once again. The reckless pursuit of impeachment simply hurts our country and nobody wins.”

From U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga. (from the AJC)

“They’ve weaponized politics here. They have obstructed this president since day one. They just can’t get over that he won the election, and so I just see this as premature.”
