A couple of items to note on Monday’s Rome City Commission meeting (6:30 p.m. City Hall; 5 p.m. caucus, Sam King Rome). Draft agenda
- The first readings of the urban camping and panhandling ordinances is scheduled for Monday. The path to the latest attempted first reading has been bumpy with initial blowback from those representing the homeless community after reading the city-drafted ordinanaces requested by police. There was an unscheduled reading pushed onto the budget just before the commission meeting that stopped cold when Mayor Bill Collins was reminded that he had told the forming homeless coalition that it wouldn’t come back up before hearing more feedback. A subsequent initial meeting of the homelessness task force ended with members basically OKing the ordinances as they would help the homeless in some ways eased the roadblock and a city committee has placed it back up for the first of two readings this Monday.

Also, the next meeting of the homeless task force is set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at The Well at West Rome Baptist Church.
The Floyd County Commission will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Community Room, Suite 206, on the second floor of the Floyd County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave. Caucus will begin at 4 p.m. in the Commissioners Caucus Room, Suite 204, followed by the Board Meeting at 6 p.m. On the agenda will be the second reading and public hearing for three rezoning requests:
- File Z19-09-02 requesting rezoning from Suburban Residential to Heavy Commercial for the property located at 0 Foster Mill Road and Melson Road, Cave Spring, GA;
Recommendation to approve with conditions from planning department. Recommendation to a denial from the Planning Commission (6-0).
- File Z19-09-01 requesting rezoning from Community Commercial to Light Industrial for the property located at 4756 Calhoun Road, Rome, GA; Recommendation to approve from planning department and a recommendation of denial from the Planning Commission (5-1).
- File SUP19-09-04 requesting a Special Use Permit for a duplex in the Suburban Residential Zoning District for the property located at 302D Pleasant Valley Road, Silver Creek, GA. Recommendation to approve with conditions from planning department. Recommendation for denial from the Planning Commission (6-0)
