Obituaries: Lester Richard “Red” Blalock Jr., Mr. Robert Lee Goudelock, Joseph K. Weber.

Joseph K. Weber, a resident of Rome, GA, a Vietnam Navy Veteran and retired Operating Engineer, died early Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019.  He was 73.  His death was preceded by a long battle with esophageal cancer.

Born in Galesburg, Illinois, to Karl and Grace Weber, Joseph, his sister, Mary Ann and brother James, were the third generation to a German-Immigrant line.  He helped his father on his family farm after serving a tour of duty in the Vietnam War as a Fighting Seabee in the U. S. Navy.  Shortly after graduating high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, where he learned his trade as a heavy equipment operator.  Heavy equipment was his passion and he continued his love for this trade upon his discharge and made a life-long career in the Operating Engineers.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon, and his two children, Josie Weber of Rome, GA, and Karl (Brynn) Weber of Cartersville, GA, as well as his sister, Mary Ann Donovan of Stanley, Iowa.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 1:30 pm at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating.  The American Legion Post No. 5 Honor Guard will be presenting military honors.

Mr. Robert Lee Goudelock, 65, of 404 Benton Dr. NW Rome, Georgia, 30165, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at a local hospital. Services are incomepelet at this time and will be announced at a later date. Wright Memorial Mortuary.


Lester Richard “Red” Blalock Jr. born July 16, 1924 to Lester Blalock Sr. and Josephine Blalock. He died Sept. 3, 2019. Preceded in death by his parents his parents, his only sibling Bill, and his wife of 71 years, Sara Blalock who passed away July 23, 2019.

Mr. Blalock served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed on the USS Muir. He was a member of the Cherokee Lodge #66 F&AM and received his 50-year apron. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Blalock was employed Simpson Grocery for 21 years and worked for Lam Theaters until his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon “TC” Blalock; a son, Richard (Linda) Blalock, several nieces, nephews and grandchildren also survived.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday September 5, 2019 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard and Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&AM will conduct graveside services.
