HURRICANE DORIAN

Hurricane Dorian’s winds were at 110 mph on Wednesday as the storm was moving north-northwest at 8 mph. On this track, the core of Hurricane Dorian will move dangerously close to the Florida east coast and the Georgia coast through tonight. The center of Dorian is forecast to move near or over the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina Thursday through Friday morning.

HOW TO HELP

Rome Cleaners reports the staff has a truck set up at the 712 Broad St. location collecting water, paper items (paper towels, toilet paper), non-perishable food/items and baby formula. They will be seeing if any items are needed in areas impacted in Georgia first; if not, then items will be going to the Bahamas. Folks can drop off donations between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday. This is in conjunction with the sheriff’s RomeGaCares operation.

  • HometownHeadlines will post relief efforts coordinated by RomeGaCares, the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
