Storms: Please keep an eye on the storms moving in from the Northwest later tonight.

Heat: Missed the record by one degree: Rome’s official high for Tuesday was 99 degrees. The heat index peaked at 109 degrees.

  •  In Cartersville: 100 degrees, tying the record first set on Aug. 13, 1957, with a maximum heat index of 109 (for three out of five hours).

8 p.m. 

  • Rome:  95 degrees with a heat index of 101. Index reached 109 degrees today.
  • Cartersville: 93 degrees and heat index of 102. Index reached 109 degrees today.
  • The forecast calls for a  high of 99 degrees — just shy of the record for Aug. 13. See precautions below.

OUTLOOK

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected each day, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
