RaceTrac’s latest store in Northwest Georgia — set for busy Ga. 140 between U.S. 41 and I-75 on the southside of the highway — is well under way. The store is 7812 Adairsville Highway.
What’s on the way: “The location planned for Adairsville will be one of our newer store prototypes. It will feature a Swirl World frozen dessert station with up to 10 flavors and 41 toppings and a large coffee area with enough counter space to create the perfect cup of freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee,” spokeswoman Megan Shannon said in an earlier interview with Hometown Headlines. Also due: “Ample seating, free Wi-Fi and more lighting in the store and parking lot to deliver a better guest experience. Outside all of our new and updated stores, you’ll find a clean, well-lit parking lot, and thoughtful elements like exterior seating options. This location will also have 14 fuel pumps.”
Also due soon: RaceTrac is building a second Floyd County store, this one off Shorter Avenue in West Rome, as well as a second location in Cartersville on Main Street near I-75.
Background: What’s powering RaceTrac’s growth here.

Work today, paid tomorrow: On today’s home page, you saw Natalie Simms’ story on how competitive things are getting in recruitment for law enforcement. The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, for example, has turned to hiring bonuses and billboards in an effort to find deputies. The above photograph shows that competition has spread to other areas, including fast-food workers. The Burger King on Ga. 140 just off I-75 is offering next-day pay for workers. The store, at 7871 Adairsville Highway, is open 6 a.m.-midnight Monday through Saturday and at 7 a.m. Sundays (drive-through; the restaurant closes an hour earlier each night).
Almost time to set those pins up: It’s been a relatively quiet summer at LakePoint in Emerson but work continues on several projects, including the new road to the north campus. Coming soon to the original section, at LakePoint Station, is a bowling alley. LakePoint Station posted the above photo over the weekend with this caption: “What a difference a week makes! Walls are being formed on the brand new bowling alley. We are so excited to share bowling with our community later this year.” Twelve lanes are due, including two for “mini bowling.” An artist’s rendering of the finished project is below.
