From the more than 100,000 square feet under roof to the Murphy USA station nearby, there’s been a lot happening around the campus of the East Rome Walmart in recent months.
The Murphy USA gas station at 825 Cartersville Highway is due back Aug. 19. Today, it looks just about ready to open after a complete scrape-and-build that started in late April. The new complex includes a walk-in store (akin to the former Kmart Express outside the Kmart in off Turner McCall).
The bigger story is the retrofit, at $1.5 million, that has swept the East Rome Walmart itself. It was part of a $104 million effort to remodel 18 stores across Georgia that also included the West Rome Walmart at 2510 Redmond Circle and the Calhoun Walmart at 450 W. Belmont Drive. The West Rome store’s remodeling project took place earlier this year. The Calhoun store’s $1.5 million remodeling project took place this summer as well. .
In an earlier interview with Hometown Headlines, regional general manager Paul Lewellen had this to say: “There is significant momentum in the reinvention of shopping for Walmart customers across Georgia. By investing $104 million in remodels and customer-focused innovations, such as grocery delivery and grocery pickup, we are able to save our customers time and money. Walmart’s continued commitment to innovation not only helps us serve our customers better, but also allows our associates to do their jobs better – and more efficiently.”
Grocery pickup and other services have been added as well as changes almost wall-to-wall inside the store. We’ll have additional updates soon.
