Sunday: The Summer Movie Series at the Rome City Auditorium continues with the Disney classic “Finding Nemo” with shows at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets for each show are $5 a person and can be purchased at the door the day of each show. Cash and credit card payments will be accepted. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to each show.

Monday: The historic DeSoto Theatre will celebrate 90 years! On Monday, Aug. 5 there will be a photo re-creation of the opening of the DeSoto 90 years ago at 5 p.m. Following the photograph re-creation, patrons are invited inside the theater for refreshments and a brief ceremony by City of Rome officials and HDTF Board members and supporters. After the ceremony, attendees can watch a short clip of the first movie ever shown at the DeSoto, the “talkie” The Rainbow Man, the highlight of the DeSoto’s opening day in 1929. The theater has remained in continued operations since that day. The evening will conclude with a sneak preview of “Tate’s Hell,” a film by local film producer and director Seth Ingram. All events are free to the public. Donations are encouraged and will be accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation.

Thursday-Sunday: Rome Braves host the Augusta GreenJackets at State Mutual Stadium. Games at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday; 6 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday. Friday: The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free Rome Braves License Plate. Saturday: The Rome Braves will be wearing “Players Weekend/Nickname” jerseys on the field during game. All jerseys will be auctioned off via silent auction on the main concourse. All proceeds benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation. Sunday: The $50 Family Fun Day Package (over $100 value) includes 4 tickets, 4 hamburgers OR hot dogs, 4 sodas, 4 popcorns, 4 hats + free Kid Zone inflatable wristbands.

FridayChieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home’s annual Low Country Boil & Barbecue at the Palladium at 69 Church St.  in Rome at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds. The event is sponsored by Sweet P’s at the Palladium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., which features an open bar and an all-you-can-eat buffet of low country boil and barbecue provided by The Season Events Catering served at 7:30 p.m. The local bluegrass band The Barbaric Yawps will provide musical entertainment during dinner. Tickets are $80 for individuals with tables for eight available at $640. Portions of each event ticket sale are tax-deductible. Aug. 23: The Forum River Center in collaboration with Ready or Not Entertainment announces a concert featuring Georgia-based Mother’s Finest. The internationally known funk rock band will perform on Friday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m., at The Forum RIver Center along with The Vintage VixensJimmy Hall, an Alabama native, also will join the show.
